"a personal transportation machine that uses a complex series of sensors and gyroscopes to balance a human passenger on a pair of wheels."
basically it has a device within it to measure whether or not the footboard is level. when the person leans forward, it upsets the equilibrium and it is no longer balanced. the vehicle then rotates the wheels in order to balance the vehicle.
