what's your best random parenting tip?
mine is: buy a red washcloth. the first time your kid takes a tumble off her scooter and cuts her knee open, it will be helpful to mop up the carnage. if you wipe the blood into a cream or white towel, the amount of blood will scare her. learned this one the hard way..
For a baby that wont go to sleep or has a fever or is just fussy for no reason, let them play in the bath. Usually the water is calming, relaxing, and tires them out. It can bring down a fever and help put baby to sleep. I learned that while nannying. It has worked on every kid i babysat and my niece and nephew and cousins.
When kids get hurt, dont make a big deal out of it and say oh my poor baby, it only makes it worse. With my oldest neice, when she was about 3-4, everytime she would get hurt, for example she hurt her leg, we would be like Do we need to cut it off? And kind of joke about it. Or if she hit her head on the floor or something, we would say, did your head break the floor? Why were you hurting the floor? And she would end up laughing and not be concerned that she was hurt.
Also, when kids get to the age when they like to ask a million "Why’ questions. Just give them a weird answer, like because the sky is purple. It throws them off and makes them stop and think before they ask other questions because obviously, the sky isnt purple. lol.
listen to your parent’s parenting advice.
thats a good one, never though of that one. I just have generics like pick your battles and remember to take pictures even of your middle child.. lol.
Every baby tries to eat their poo at some point…
That’s a great tip! I never thought of it, I just tell them not to look.
I think my tip would have to be
Always have a change of clothes, no matter their age.
They miss the bathroom, fall in mud, get thrown into pools, get sick.. all ages.
My tip: if you kid is struggling with math in school do the following three things, 1. buy a copy of school house rock, 2. take your kids to the grocery store with you and make them shop. 3. Make them have a yard sale and be in change of the money and setting the prices.
Laugh! Laugh at the little things. And take pictures when they aren’t looking. You never know when you may have to pull them out to show a girlfriend or boyfriend. I’m kidding!
We laugh and just enjoy each others company as much as we can.
Don’t let your little boys stand and pee in front of an automatic flushing toilet without blocking the sensor.
Sounds random, but when ever I take my 3yr son into a public bathroom with an automatic flushing toilet, it ends up flushing on him before he’s done. He moves because he’s scared, the stall becomes a mess, his clothes become a mess… I’ve had a few of my girlfriends thank me for this advice.
After being here, my advice would be to RELAX and enjoy your children’s youth. They grow so darn fast.
My son isn’t due until oct but to all the pregnant ladies- map out where the clean bathrooms are!
