Whats a great Harley Davidson to get?

I’m going into the Marines next year so after am done with boot camp and advance infantry training I want to get a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
-I can handle a motorcycle
-I would want to go on long bike rides (But none of those crouiser bikes that are huge, not my style)
-Looking to spend 00-10,000 maybe more
-Just pick the model please
if your going to support AMERICA by fighting for us you might as well help buying an AMERICAN bike and get a HARLEY V-ROD.good luck
dont get a HARLEY, they’re noise and annoying.
try a honda or somethgin different

Your first statement scares the hell out of me. I have seen too many people repeat exactly that right before they got out of control. I don’t know that I believe that just on it’s own merit. Comfortable for long rides, not a touring bike, Harley less than $10,000. I’ve got nothing for that price. Add another $10,000, and don’t worry so much about a longer comfortable cruise without getting a touring model, and you have a wide variety to choose from. I would go a Crossbones given the choice.
Once you are an active duty Marine, you will have to tell your chain of command you intend to purchase a motorcycle. After the financial counseling to make sure you can afford it at your pay, you can purchase one with your commands approval. You will have to attend at minimum two training courses before you can get your license. The first is the basic riders course, and the second is the experienced riders course.
If you go the sport bike style route you willhave to attend a third course from the Keith Code school for sports bikes offered in our area every quarter.
At your first regular unit you will be on Force Protection Program which makes you automatically high risk when you have been in the unit for less than one year so your movements wil be pretty limited. You will have to check in with a mentor every day, but should have plenty of people around that ride. You are limited on a regular weekend to no more than 250 miles away from your base, and no more than 450 on a 4 day weekend. If you are part of an east coast unit like Lejeune you will have to fill out a liberty package every weekend that is more than 48 hours detailing a safe liberty plan.
Used FXR or a newer Dyna big twin
There isnt a great HD. The cheapest to the most expensive they are all the same douche cycles with a chair with two wheels belching as you drive by.
Your best bet would probably be an FL softail model, and the price range you are asking, you will need to look at used ones. An FLSTF Fatboy, FLSTN Deluxe, or FLSTC Heritage Softail. 2002-2006 will be the cheapest and most reliable. 2007 and later have a 96 cubic inch engine with a six speed, so you will spend more on those. One would think a Marine could think for himself…. To that end: Harley doesn’t make a bike that is not considered a cruiser, except the venerable V-Rod, and the new really cool XR1200 Sportster. However you cannot get either bike with your current budget of $10,000. The 10K would make a hell of a down payment for either bike, as the amount to be financed remaining would be small and very manageable. Payments? -got no clue. See your banker.
If you want to get a metric sport/touring bike to have some measure of both worlds, the same would be true: 10K will only get you started but would go at least a little further.

Go with a jap bike,way cheaper better built and more comfy,and way faster
Buying a harley is like if you joined the Marines and they handed out old cowboy lever action carbines for you to go to war with. Fine guns and bikes in thier day but no longer stack up to what is out there today.
as a former Marine myself I would say Sportster
you are a healthy young man, HD’s are for old, fat, bald men that can no longer attract women anymore
no HD is comfortable for a long ride, they are too heavy, too hot, and vibrate excessively, plus they lack any performance, suck gas with a tiny gas tank where you have to stop for gas every 40 to 60 miles.

I recommend any of the dyna glides for what you want and price. i know for a fact they have used ones at my local dealership for that price range. Go look and pick what you like. you gotta ride it.
