What Harley Davidson should I choose?
Lately I’ve been searching for Harley-Davidson motorcycles (choppers), but they are all awesome. I want to know what would be the most appropriate motorbike for me. I don’t have a lot of experience and I’m not rich, my maximum would be $ 20,000. Could you help me to choose a motorcycle? (consider that I love long trips)
First off, choppers and long trips don’t really go together. With your lack of experience, you don’t really know what you want yet. I would recommend you get a lower cost, easier to learn on bike. 20 grand is a lot to spend on your first bike. If your heart is set on a Harley, they have a couple of custom looking Sportsters like the 883 Iron or the 1200 Nightster that you can get for around 10 grand. That leaves you plenty of money left over for some good riding gear and some luggage for a trip. Also be sure to take an MSF safety course, it could save your life. Ride the sportster around for a couple of years and gain some valluable experience and you will probably find your taste in bikes changing slighty. At any rate you will now what you want more by then and can begin to think about moving up to a bigger road bike like the Street Glide, or going toward the chopper side of it. Big Dog has choppers starting at 20 grand, but you really need to be a couple of years into it to get in that deep for what is essentialy a toy.
Good luck! Have fun with it and be safe!
ultra classic but for long trips i would go with a Gold Wing
a fat boy or a wide glide, something like what the the blue demon rides!!
The right bike for you would be the one on which you are most comfortable.
Go to your local dealer and start trying them on.
Thomy8s is right, you really need to test ride several. That is a big purchase. In general if you plan to do long rides you’ll want something in the touring models. If you are cool with a full dress type bike the Ultra Classic is awesome. If you want a little more stripped down style check out a Street Glide or Road King. I just sold a 2009 Street Glide and it was a cool bike. They all do feel very different so try as many as possible. And just for the record, stock Harleys aren’t choppers. Choppers are a totally different beast.
Stock Harleys are not choppers, but most choppers are Harleys. A chopper is a motorcycle that has been stripped of all non-essential hardware and has had all unused tabs and mounts cut off the frame. The frame might also be streched and raked and it might have extended forks. Since a bike has to start out stock and be chopped to become a "chopper" there is no such thing as a factory built chopper.
