Should Morbidly Obese People be Allowed?
to ride around in scooters and wheelchairs when they’re not actually disabled in theme parks like Disney World and Sea World? Seriously, if you’re actually disabled, you should be able to receive a great quality theme park experience, and I think it’s great that Disney has wheelchair accessible rides and attractions. But when lazy, fat slobs are riding around in scooters and wheelchairs, it gets ridiculous and dangerous. These men and women can walk, they’re just lazy! I witnessed an overweight man switch places riding in the wheelchair with his wife and a fat women getting out of her motorized scooter to "stretch her legs." These are the people who knock down little kids in crowds and hold up lines for rides. And think about how people with disabilities feel! Watching people who can actually walk ride around like that! That’s terrible. I seriously think that Disney should be stricter about this kind of thing. If your disabled you should get all the benefits of wheelchair accessibility but if you’re just lazy, WALKING WON’T KILL YOU!
what if a medical condition causes extreme weight gain? and the person cannot walk more than 10 – 20 steps? isnt that a disability?
Yes, I agree.
Those people need to exercise, and walking will help.
I became overweight until I checked out acai berry, I know they say that pills will not work, nevertheless they certainly worked for me, and they’ve been featured on CBS News too. There’s a free trial going on currently at http://nukufets.yngling.com , why not check it out, what have you got to lose?
I didn’t even see rubbish like that, until I went to the USA. Fat people don’t roam around on scooters like road hogs anywhere else in the world. I believe they should just have girth restrictions on such rides and money should be spent on weight loss schemes rather than funding these motorised people carriers.
I agree, that’s ridiculous! Unless they have problems when they CAN’T walk then it won’t kill them to walk around.
I know, right? I have had r.a. since I was a very little girl, and am always moving or stretching in some way to relieve pain, and I meet these older ladies who weigh more than I do (I’m 160 and dropping) who are complaining about walking or lifting or working, and they don’t have r.a., and they’re like You walk so much coz you’re young, and I just wanna lecture them sometimes. It’s sad and wrong. But on the other hand, I feel compassion for them, usually, and understand that they don’t understand they could do better.
I am overweight, but also have a severe ankle problem from a car accident. I hate when people give me dirty looks like I’m just lazy. You don’t know what someone’s going through so don’t be so MEAN. Also, being fat DOES make it impossible for some people to walk long distances. Plus, most morbidly obese people have arthritis and other ailments because of their weight. I don’t judge you for your spelling errors (woman/women, your/you’re, etc)… don’t judge people when you have no idea what their story is.
The fact is that there are many disabled people who can walk for short distances or get up to stretch their legs and still be disabled. I’m not obese. I’m overweight. I wear a size 14 but I’m not huge. I used to be a skinny stick until I had an organ transplant and was put on high doses of steroids that made me gain weight. Now that my kidney is failing again, I have a hard time walking and get out of breath. My ankles swell horribly, my blood pressure sores. This all b/c my kidney are failing. YOU may not know that by looking at me. How would you? I get dirty looks when I use my handicapped sign to park at stores. I guess people expect handicapped people to look handicapped. Well, guess what? They don’t. And you know what else? I’d rather walk up and down that Disney park in the heat and wait on lines all day long if I didn’t have to be tied to a machine three times a week to keep my alive. I plan on going to Disney next week with my kids to give them a great vacation. I would never make it through that park without a scooter. Can I get off and walk to the bathroom or into a store? Sure. That does not mean I’m not disabled. What I really think is that people stopped worrying about the benefits other people get and actually be happy that they are actually healthy and that they don’t need assistance to enjoy themselves.
As sweetb points out not all dissabilities can be seen by people. RA is a perfect example of a dissability that allows people to walk, but not long distances. Also, there is the possibility of one gaining weight because of his or her dissability. I have sympathy for these people. However, I don’t have sympathy for people whose only dissabilty is their weight and all their health problems are related to their weight. Unfortunately when I see a scooter at Disney World, I don’t know it the person has a serious dissabillty or if being fat is their dissability. I do resent the seats wasted on the bus to accomodate anyone who is only obese. One 400 pound plus man on our bus and four seats in a row taken up to accomodate his double-width scooter. He then sat in two seats with his body spilling over. I don’t know if the chicken or the egg came first for him. Did he have a dissabilty that caused his size? I would doubt it. If sweetb can only be 160 pounds with her lack of mobility, disabled people can control their weight to a degree. (Not as well as they may lie too.) I bet sweetb’s diet is differnt than the 400 pound man. You HAVE to eat too much to weigh that, regardless of your mobility. Disney can’t screen people and determine if it their fault they can’t walk. They can’t deny scooters for the fat. However, the fat should feel ashamed when others are standing because of their obesity. They know who they are!
