I am mainly interested in the smaller-displacement (50cc or so) scooters, but if you don’t know those and happen to know another one, then I would like to know.
thanks

Are electric scooters stupid?

I was looking into these gio scooters, i’ve been looking for a 49-50cc used scooter for under 500$ forever, i don’t get why i can’t find one when the brand new ones are supposedly 0, but i digress…

I found out the have electric powered scooters that go 20-30mph, the 50cc goes 30-40… But the 50cc has a 1gallon tank and gets 100mpg…

the gio electric scooters simply get 27-30 miles off of a fully charged battery…

I imagine that could get very expensive.. which defeats the purpose of owning one….

How much does a good Used moped cost?

I’m looking for a nice, sporty moped for the summer ( since gas is outrageous ) and you don’t need to pay insurance on it …since i’m going to be in town basically that’s all i need. I was wondering..how much does a used moped cost?

Under these specifications; Sporty, 50cc or UNDER…

Also..i’m having a VERY hard time finding a website to browse mopeds to get an idea.

I am about to return to the States after living in China for a year (where everyone rides a scooter) and I wanted to purchase a scooter to save money on gas for shorter local trips to the grocery store etc. I live in VA and have read that the scooter doesn’t have to be registered if its under 50cc and a maximum speed under 30mph. So I basically would like it to be street legal and somewhere around k. If you have experience owning a scooter in the States, I’d love some advice on what scooters are best (I was looking at a vespa-like scooter- the Capri 50cc at mrscooters.com), where to buy, and other advice such as whether these scooters can be repaired locally and for cheap, maintenance etc. I’m pretty clueless on this. Thanks!

Moped stolen, how does the insurance claim work?

My moped was stolen this morning, I had it insured with Statefarm but I don’t know what’s supposed to happen now. I filed the claim this morning after doing the police report. Can Statefarm deny my claim for any reason? Also, when Statefarm pays me will it be for what it’s worth or what I paid for it? This whole situation is so stressful, I’d appreciate a simple answer and hopefully a nice one. For extra credit, maybe someone can answer why a person would even steal a 50cc moped out of a parking lot with much nicer cars.

Considerations for a Motor Scooter

Ok,
I’m finally considering it, but I’d like some opinions and some Advise. I already have a car aka a Mitsubishi Gallant 2000 ES with a V6 that does about 30mpg. I’m considering getting a Motor Scooter for my shorter distance trips and regular commuting trips with using the car for long distance commutes and dates (lol) untill something like the Carver One or Venture One comes to my state (Florida). I’m looking for something that does about 90mpg. Here are a few questions I have about scooters:
1. For these 90mpg vehicles, how large is the tank?
2. How fast do these vehicles normally go (I’m no motor head so I couldn’t tell you the difference between a 2 stroke 50cc and a 2 stroke 150cc)
3. Is it a viable long lasting solution regardless of where gas prices may lead?
4. What’s the general perception of people riding them now addays? It used to seem and look rather stupid years ago…
5. Will the price of maintenance = the amount I saved for gas with these vehicles? Or are they relatively low maintenance?

Basically I’d really use it to get to work (about a 15min drive from where I live), and go to a couple stores I normally go to in my area, with limited trips to Hallendale or Miami beach (about 30 to 45 min away).

I want to buy a moped in california?

I want to buy a moped under 50cc in california, and I am 15 with a drivers permit. Do i need a license to ride a moped under 50cc? Also, would i need insurance, or a license?
If i wanted to buy a 49cc pocket bike, would it be the same thing? I heard pocket bikes are illegal in california, is that true?

Im looking at buying a vespa scooter registered as a 50cc, im 16 years old, and was wondering because it has a 110cc big bore kit fitted on it how this would effect the insurance cost? Thanks for any help.

Hello,

I have a few 49cc mopeds and am hoping to pick up a nicer 250cc model so I can ride faster and with a passenger.

Assuming I don’t try to register it as a 49cc (they don’t usually check the paperwork on mopeds when registering them), I’d expect to get pulled over as they are substantially larger than the 49cc models and they go much faster.

Since it’s over 50cc, I will need a motorcycle license as well as insurance for the bike.

I am currently two weeks shy of my eighteenth birthday. Have had two accidents, both where I was rear ended at a stop sign.

I got screwed over once and may be considered ‘at fault’. (Guy didn’t want to report, I had a dump truck with no damage…..he reported saying I hit him. I was younger, less likely to be believed).

And the other was simple; got a check for the repairs done from getting rear ended.

Any idea on how much my insurance will be? I may be able to use one of my parents’ insurance, but neither have had any motorcycle licenses/experiences.

Also, what is the process for getting a motorcycle (class m ?) license/permit?

Thank you very much for any time and/or consideration.
- Ryan
Thanks for the very prompt response.

For the insurance, I was just hoping for a general idea on if I’ll be paying closer 0 a year or 00 a year. I’d have to talk to an agent for a more specific quote, but I wanted to have somewhat of a ballpark idea.

On that website, I see the written test is for a permit. From what I gather, I just need that, a legal motorcycle, and fill out the test application and pass the road test, correct?

As far as the fees, I didn’t see anything with Class M listed?

I saw the fee for adding a motorcycle endorsement to a class M permit and my current license. Is that all I would need to do?

Sorry, unfamiliar with this topic and trying to learn. Thanks for the help!

Do I need insurance to drive a 50cc moped?

I already own a car, but I have insurance through my parents because I’m not yet 18. In Wisconsin it is against the law not to have car insurance if you own a car, but I can’t seem to find anything about mopeds. I do know that motorcycles need insurance, but 50cc and under does not qualify as a motorcycle.

The reason I’m asking is because I’d like to just start scooting around cheaply and I’d rather not have to talk with my insurance if I don’t have to.

Also, if it helps, it’s a 1981 50cc Honda Express, with a top speed of 27mph. Well within classification as a moped.
Actually, in Wisconsin you are required to have a license to operate any motor vehicle on public roads.

Looking to buy a moped/scooter in NJ?

Hi i am looking to buy a solid, non Chinese made motorized scooter that can reach speeds of 50-60mph. I was thinking about buying a car, im only 16 so it would be my first, but i decided it really wouldn’t make much sense with the rising gas prices. I need a solid, somewhat powerful scooter that will last. I was looking for a 150 cc or at least something over 100cc. I guess its a good thing I must wait a few months to be able to ride it, since I will need a motorcycle license for anything over 50cc without pedals.

I was looking at this Rattler 110. It looks pretty sturdy but its a little pricey

Please share your thoughts on the Rattler and if you know of any non Chinese made scooters that are solid and reliable, Thanks!!!
