hi need help before i buy a moped i live in the uk how much and how long will it take for a provisional to arrive ? is the cbt test hard and how long does it take and i know i need moped insurance i thought it wud be cheap for me as am almost 22 and not a kid do you think ? and what is mot and tax for ive no idea plz help
Cost of your first provisional is £50, time taken varies with how busy they are when you apply.
CBT is NOT a test, it is training to help you stay safe on the road, usually takes 4 – 6 hours, can be more if you are a slow learner. Cost is £80 – £120 depending on where you live and should include hire of bike and safety equipment. It will be much easier if you study Highway Code and / or Theory test manual before you go but this is not a legal requirement, just useful information.
At your age moped insurance will be relatively cheap – shop around. Tax is £15 a year. MOT is a test of the moped’s major parts; brakes, lights, suspension etc for safety and is only required if the bike is more than 3 years old.
You can legally ride a bike (automatic or geared) up to 125cc at your age after taking CBT, it will cost a little more but is more useful. A 50cc moped will not go over about 30mph so it takes a long time to get places.
