1yes motorcycles are usually much cheaper than cars im not sure whats available in california but just call any insurance agent and they could give you a quote even before you buy the motorcycle, this is a good idea because some bikes will cost a lot more than others to insure
2 a cruiser is going to be a heavier big bike such as a harley davidson, kawasaki 4s, etc etc. a sport bike is your CBR,GSXR,ZX,and the yamaha R series would be the most common these bike are your zippy lightweights that really move and handle well. These bikes are usually refered to as street bikes as well but pretty much any bike with a plate on it is a street bike
3. yes of course they make you hot but they make coats for every season(lightweight, and thin to thick and heavy) helmets these days actually have good venting systems to keep your head not sweating to bad but its still warm in there.
get a used cruiser 500-750 cc
it’ll do all you need to do, it will be cheap, and insurance will be next to nil if you don’t finance it…
I believe the insurance is cheaper because the value of the vehicle is cheaper. I could be wrong. A cruiser is generally a bigger bike. To me it’s more like a Harley Davidson style bike. A street bike would be like a Kawasaki Ninja or other similar models. I think street and sport bikes are the same thing.
According to my husband (he rides his every day for transportation) It’s not hot with the helmet and jacket at all. We live in Long Beach. You get a lot of ventilation in the helmet and the jacket. They have a lot of little zippers that you open for ventilation.
Good luck! and be careful!
1) Depends: Go to one of the Ins. Co. web sites and get an estimate.
2) Cruisers ride lower and more stable for street and highway riding. Street bikes are smaller and usally better on gas mileage. Sport bikes are for sport riding on the curves and twisties of the back roads.
3) Jackets can get hot if you are riding in town on a hot day but with the vents open they are not so bad on the open road. A half or three-quarter helmet is cooler in the summer.
1. surprisingly, yes. you’d think due to a lack of security and safety features, it’d be really expensive, but it isn’t
2. cruiser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruiser_(motorcycle)
great for longer rides
sport bike: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_bike
good for speed, and carving around corners
also consider touring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touring_motorcycle
even better at long range riding, with loads of car-like goodies. they tend to be the most expensive
for most riding, i prefer a cruiser. and any bike designed for street (rather than race) use is a street bike
3. yes, they can be. most have air vents to help, but they’re really only useful at speed
