Exhaust plug is something you put in the end of your muffler while you are washing the bike to keep water out. A spark arrestor keeps sparks from flying out the exaust so you don't burn the woods down. Spark arrestors do not rob any power at all. A bike like the TT-R comes from the factory with a spark arrestor. Motocross bikes do not come with spark arrestors, and you have to either put a Sparky clamp-on spark arrestor on the end of your silencer or replace your silencer with a spark arrestor silencer.

Some spark arrestors are a screen. Some just change the flow of exhaust before it exists so it cools enough to not be sparks before it exits. A spark arrestor has to say that it is approved by the USDA Forest Service on it. If it does not have a stamping that says it is an approved spark arrestor on it anywhere, it cannot be used at places like Hollister Hills.

Exhaust plugs keep water and other things from getting into your muffler.... it's good to use when washing or storing your bike for a long time, since water and debris can cause damage to the internals of your muffler.

Spark arrestors keep sparks from coming out of the muffler... in many areas they are required, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to get one if you plan on riding on state trails.
