Yes it may…
Normally auto insurance companies run motor vehicle reports when writing new business. That means that if you have a ticket and go to get something new, it’s likely going to show up. having one speeding ticket, no other moving violations, and no accidents is still enough to prevent you from getting a companies best rates, however, assuming it was speeding no more than 25mph over, you will likely still qualify for a good rate, just not the best.
You’re best bet is to tell your agent what happened, and ask him to check the rates for you. I work as an agent in Illinois, and I can tell you that it’s very easy for us to check it for you.
Good Luck!
The insurance companies don’t see it as a car vs motorcycle thing. Speeding is speeding, and if it shows up on your driving record, it can affect your insurance costs.
If you motorcycle license number is the same as your regular driver’s license number (and almost in every jurisdiction it is), then all moving violations will show up on the same report, regardless of what type of vehicle was being used when you received the ticket. Most reports do NOT show what vehicle was being driven when you received the ticket, and even if it did most insurers would not care.
