I drive a pickup truck through the winter and rainy days. It's a compact truck, so it gets pretty good fuel mileage (about 30 mpg). On good days, I ride my motorcycle. It's a BMW, so for a motorcycle, it doesn't get awesome mileage. But it's still better than my truck-- the bike gets about 45 mpg. Insurance on my bike (750cc, I'm 23 and have no tickets or accidents on my record) costs about $250 per year. All things considered, it's pretty much a wash on the money I'm saving on fuel, because the bike adds one more vehicle that has to be maintained and insured. I'm doing more oil changes, more preventive maintenance, buying more tires, etc. And as you'll find out, motorcycle parts and maintenance items (oil, filters, tires, etc.) usually aren't cheap. However, with all that being said, I find I have a much better day when I get to ride to and from work. It makes me feel more invigorated, and I look forward to my commute home or my lunch break, when I can sneak in a ride down an out-of-the-way road or side-street. It adds a little more zest to my otherwise boring life. It’s absolutely worth it.

One of the most expensive things that we buy today is gas. During the summer a good gas saver would most definetly be a motorcycle. I have a buell thunderbolt sporteur and a mercedes e class coupe. I use my car for the winter and when it rains but on every nice day i take my bike everywhere. I get just about 60 miles to the gallon.
