In the US, it depends on the state.

EDITED TO ADD: Keep them at home - I supposed you could put the photo ID part of your licence in your purse.</description>

		<description>I never have my documents on me when I ride or drive. These days, if the police want to know whether you have the right documents, they can find out soon enough via the national database.

If you have a two-part licence though, keeping the photocard on your person would prove very handy as a form of ID for the police if they wanted it, so it's no bad idea to carry it.</description>
