Are electric scooters stupid?
I was looking into these gio scooters, i’ve been looking for a 49-50cc used scooter for under 500$ forever, i don’t get why i can’t find one when the brand new ones are supposedly 0, but i digress…
I found out the have electric powered scooters that go 20-30mph, the 50cc goes 30-40… But the 50cc has a 1gallon tank and gets 100mpg…
the gio electric scooters simply get 27-30 miles off of a fully charged battery…
I imagine that could get very expensive.. which defeats the purpose of owning one….
This calculator might be helpful in determining if it’s worth investing into an electric scooter vs. gas:

Charging a battery is definitely cheaper than gasoline. But an electric scooter will cost more upfront, so you have to determine how long it will take to save enough money on gas to make it worth it…
Yup! Any where other than Europe.
Yes, unless you live in Europe.
Then they are awesome AND practical!
If you do a little research into the actual cost of the electricity needed to fully charge the scooter battery, I think you’ll find that it is ‘way lower than the cost of gasoline for the same distance covered by the scooter.
Yes, they are stupid. Get a bicycle.
Nah they’re great. I had one with a 20 mph top speed and 20 mile range. Then I upgraded to one with a 50 mph top speed and 30 mile range. It’s great – costs me about 1 cent per mile in electricity, 15 cents per trip. If you get a 100 mpg scooter, it will cost you 3 cents per mile with gas at $3/gallon.
It has nothing to do with ecology, new ideas, or conservation. Its all about petroleum, money, money, & money. if my 40 Ford was electric I imagine the sound would change a bit, & so would my attitude in driving it.
Scooters are dumb! If your commute is that short just take a taxy or bus. Consider yourself lucky I have a 200+ mile commute daily in a 15 mpg hemi pickup.
Mine claims to be smarter than I am, but I bet I could beat it in trivial persuit.
